TRANSLATIO

The Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation  goes this year to Adan Kovacsics and Johann Strutz. The prize ceremony will take place on 3rd July 2011 from 18:00 in Musilhaus.

Translatio is the only national prize that is presented outside of Vienna - on the Sunday before the Festival of German Language Literature. Since 1985, the prize worth 8,000 €, has been presented by the Arts and Media section of the Federal Chancellery in two categories. Award winners:

Adan KOVACSICS

Born in 1953 in Santiago de Chile, lives in Vilanova i la Geltrú ( Spain ). Studied Romance languages and literature, English language and literature and Philosophy in Vienna. Lives since 1980 in Spain. Focus Translation of Austrian and Hungarian literature.

Translations of Karl Kraus, Elias Canetti, Paul Celan, Péter Esterházy, György Konrad, and Imre Kertész. Lecturer of the postgraduate course Literary Translation (German -Spanish), University of Barcelona and of the Hungarian-Spanish translation seminar at the Hungarian Translators House.

Johann STRUTZ

Born 1949 in Ruden, lives in Ruden (Kärnten). Studied Literature and Linguistics in Graz. Since 1984, employee at the Klagenfurt University, responsible for the comparative regional focus: Literature connections in the Alpine Adriatic Region, Small Literature in the European context, Literature and Multilingualism.

Literary and scientific translations from Slovenian, Croatian and Italian as well as from English and Welsh.
