FGLL 2009: “Stories for Europe”
In 2008, the submitted texts for the Festival of German-Language Literature (FGLL) were translated into six languages. In 2009, a further language is added: Croatian. Hypo Alpe Adria has been won over as new sponsor.

Overcoming borders and creating new European spaces – this is what links the Festival of German-Language Literature with the Hypo Group Alpe Adria. For the first time in 2009, Hypo is sponsor of Bachmann Prize goes Europe.
“The Hypo Group Alpe Adria is active in twelve countries. Every day, the company has to deal with many different languages. And we are always aware of high quality language and literality and we regard it as a matter of course to be part of this intellectual highlight”, said Tilo Berlin, chairman of the Hypo Group Alpe Adria, at a press conference in Klagenfurt.

Stadler follows Dieter Moor
For the first time in 2009, Clarissa Stadler (ORF/3sat) will present the readings and discussions in the ORF Theatre. She will replace Dieter Moor, who made a guest appearance in Klagenfurt for just one year.

Award-winning novel translated into eight languages
The “Bachmann Prize goes Europe” award turned the novel “Das Zimmermädchen” (the chambermaid) by Markus Orths (published by Schöffling publishing house) into a story for Europe. For his excerpt from “Das Zimmermädchen”, Orths was awarded the Telekom Austria Prize in 2008. The novel’s translation into eight languages alone turns the Festival of German-Language Literature into an international platform that has not been seen in this form before.
Given the success of this project, Klagenfurt has every right to call itself the capital of literature. And not just at the end of June, but all the year round. All submitted texts will be published online in all languages at the same time as the readings take place at the ORF Theatre.
Translation now also into Croatian
All texts published on the web pages of FGLL 2009 will be translated into English. The most important information, biographies of the jurors and the authors, the “Klagenfurter Rede zur Literatur” [Klagenfurt Address on Literature] and of course all the texts will be translated into French, Italian, English, Spanish, Slovenian, Czech and for the first time also into Croatian.
This year, the Festival of German-Language Literature will take place from 24 to 28 June.
