Stimulating discussions on the second day

The readings for the Bachmann Prize have drawn to a close. The high quality of the texts meant that the anount of praise and criticism was roughly equal. On the last day, however, we witnessed some fierce differencs of opinion within the jury.

Rammstedt and Ziegler convinced the jury

After the jury appeared very taken by Heike Geissler's text this morning, Tilman Rammstedt's humorous text "The Emperor of China" and Ulf Erdmann Ziegler's "Pomona" impressed the panel in the afternoon.

Two "yellow cards" for Ursula März

The discussion on Rammstedt led to conflict between März and Spinnen. The juror reacted to Spinnen's objections to the text by claiming that nobody beyond the walls of the ORF Theatre would be interested in them . "Foul", cried the offended chairman.

The second yellow card was brandished by Klaus Nüchtern, but more in jest this time. März accused the text by his chosen author Anette Selg of having the "aesthetic of a German television play".
