Translatio is an event of the Robert Musil Institute at the University of Klagenfurt. Also in this year the prestigious awards were presented.

Translatio is an event of the Robert Musil Institute at the University of Klagenfurt. Also in this year the prestigious awards were presented. The winners for 2007 are Karin Rausch and Branimir Živojinovic.

Awarding of the Translatio Prize

The Musil House understands itself as being and interface and turntable of at least three cultures: the Slovenian, Italian and Austrian cultures. Thus, it is no coincidence that the Austrian State Prize for Literary Translation is awarded by the office of the Chancellor.

Translatio is the only state prize awarded outside of Vienna and is done so each year on the Sunday before the start of the German Literature Days. Since 1985, the art and media section of the office of the Chancellor provides 7,300 € respectively for two fields of work.

In this year, the prize was awarded to Karin Rausch and Branimir Živojinovic. The official awarding of the prize will take place on June 22nd in the Robert Musil House in Klagenfurt.

Karin Rausch was born in Duisburg-Hamborn in 1949 and lives in Vienna. At the university, she studied Linguistics and German. From 1976 to 1983, she lived in London. In 1979, she earned her doctorate. She has taught at the universities of Shanghai and New Delhi through DAAD. Since 1987, she has been translating literary works written in English. She also translates on a regular basis for National Geographic and translates plays together with Elfriede Jelinek.

Branimir Živojinovi? (1930 - 2007) (1930 - 2007) was a professor of German at the University of Belgrade. Editor of the Serbian Literature Journal  Srpska knjizevna zadruga. Co-founder of the Union of Literary Translators in Serbia.

Translations from German, English, French and Russian: Goethe, Shakespeare, Schiller, Novalis, Heine, Rilke, Nietzsche, Milton, Ljermontov, Baudelaire, Celan, Ahmatova, Kafka, Musil, Hesse, Mann, Canetti and many others as well. 

He was the recipient of numerous prizes and distinctions, including honours conferred by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Belgrade Prize for Literature and Translation for his translation of Musil's A Man without Qualities.
